Over the last 11 years I have served the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Wallowa County as your Undersheriff.

I have been a full-time Law Enforcement Officer since 1989 and was a reserve for about a year and a half before that.

I am a graduate of the Oregon Police Academy and hold certificates as a Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Police Officer, and hold certificates in Supervision, and in Management, from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.

I am a graduate of the Oregon Executive Development Institute, and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.  I have undergraduate credits from Eastern Oregon University, Chemeketa Community College, and the University of Virginia.  I have worked for La Grande Police, Lewiston Police and the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office.

I have also served as a Search and Rescue Volunteer since 1970 in Union County and serve in that role as a Sheriff’s Deputy in Wallowa County.

Prior to my law enforcement career, I worked for Boise Cascade Corporation in Elgin, Oregon.  I have gained an understanding of the Sheriff’s role in the community, and his duty to the people he represents.

I believe the Sheriff’s Office should be operated with a common-sense approach to law enforcement with strong community involvement; a strong sense of budget responsibility, which means managing the public’s money in a reasonable manner; as well as consistent and aggressive searching for other sources of money such as grants and contacts with other entities to assist with the needs of the office and community.

I believe that working together with the county management and the community is the answer to keeping us all safe and building a thriving area that is safe and prosperous for everyone.

I have lived in Eastern Oregon most of my life with the exception of a short time in the mid-1990’s in Lewiston, Idaho.  I was born and raised in La Grande, Oregon,  and lived in Enterprise for a short period of time when I was very young.  Both of my parents live in La Grande, along with my brother and his family, and my sister lives in Boise, Idaho.  I also have three daughters and three grandsons that live in Oregon and Idaho.
